We welcome Ben to T3SC

Ben is the new Policy and Participation Manager at T3SC.
'T3SC’s Policy and
Participation Team wants to make sure that voluntary and community groups get
their voice heard on local issues. My role is to manage the team supporting the
range of different networks in Tameside (www.t3sc.org/networks.htm)
and their representatives in decision making processes.
Together we organise Voice – the network of networks – which is a great way to
learn more, meet others and get involved so do get in touch to find out more. My
background is in international development work and helping young adults to
speak up about poverty issues.'

Getting Community organisations
on Tameside Radio
Tameside Radio has now been live on
air for 16 months. There has been a steady increase in
community content during that period but there is much much more we can all do
together.
To this end we are planning to increase the direct activities of individual community groups whereby they can participate more in the spoken content of our broadcasts.
'I am
planning to attend as many community groups'
management committees as possible in 2009. Following this meeting, we would like
every organisation to identify a volunteer reporter who is willing to be trained
by us to script, edit and record their organisation’s personal message(s). This
can be anything from your recruitment of volunteers to informing the community
of the services offered by you, or maybe advertising an event you are planning?
I am endeavouring to contact all groups as soon
as possible but if any organisation would like to contact me before I get chance
to contact you, please do so at
maria@tamesideradio.com or ring 078 7757
5200.'

Yoobot helps children
think about what they eat
There is a new resource for those of you working with young people that looks at the effects of physical activity and diet on long term health. It is called Yoobot and has been designed by the British Heart Foundation. The Association of Public Health Observatories describes it as:
'A free game and
learning tool that the British Heart Foundation have developed to help children
think more about the food they are eating and take more responsibility for their
own health. The main aim of Yoobot is to encourage children to consider the long
term consequences of their current food and activity choices – by offering them
a chance to experiment with their future. Yoobot is designed to allow a child to
experiment on their mini version of themselves with a range of diets and
exercise regimes. The nutritional content and physical benefits of exercise are
modeled on real data in order to give the experience a degree of realism.'
The website is very
informative as well as being a lot of fun.

Do you provide a service/activity for families, children, or young people?
New friendly information sharing guidance has just been
published!
The guidance is for front-line staff who have to make decisions about sharing
personal information on a case-by-case basis, whether they are providing
services to children, young people, adults and/or families; working in the
public, private or voluntary sectors, as an employee or a volunteer. The
guidance is also for managers/co-ordinators who support staff in their
decision-making and for others with responsibility for information governance.
Appropriate Information sharing ensures that, services that are coordinated
around the needs of the individual, get the right help at
the right time.

Topaz@Mind extended evening opening hours

This Spring sees the launch of extended evening
opening hours at Topaz@Mind. This is for one to one
appointments (a private meeting to discuss your issues), counselling and
courses. The centre has been open for counselling on a Monday and Thursday
evening for some time, but is extending the range of services on offer during
those evenings.

We are also opening an extra evening a week. We
now open until 7pm for the following days: Mondays for
counselling and courses; Tuesdays for counselling and courses and Thursdays for
one to one, counselling and courses.
We will be developing these evening services over the next few months.
To meet this demand, we are also recruiting
volunteers to assist with the extended evening hours, whether as a reception and
admin worker, one to one worker, counsellor or course facilitator. So if you would like
to volunteer in an evening to fit around your other commitments, these roles
could be for you.
