The History of Tameside

Community Union (From Strength

to Strength)

In March 2007 we launched the network at an event called Rumble in the Jungle. We showcased the fantastic contribution of the community, voluntary and faith sector. Parents, children and young people all got involved and picked our network mascot – the funky lizard.

Since then it has been all go!

Working together for Tameside’s children

On 24 April at Hyde Town Hall, nearly forty people were consulted on how to further integrate the voluntary, community and faith (VCF) sector into the work of the Tameside Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership.

Ian Smith, Executive Director, Children’s Services and Tameside 3rd Sector Coalition ensured participants came together from across Tameside. They included agencies and community members who make a difference to the lives of families, and young adults in Tameside.

The day was facilitated by Julie Dugdale from VCS Engage who’s thought for the day was to think big. There was a celebration of great partnership work with the VCF sector, whilst recognising the partnership needs to understand more about the contribution made by this vital sector.

Everyone felt that there should be clear simple planning and realistic expectations made of the sector, and wanted young people and parents to be involved in monitoring any future VCF sector engagement. In the future this needs to be driven across the partnership.

What happens next?
Participants considered future priorities and their great ideas were collated, summarised and presented to the Tameside children’s partnership in June. This presentation was so well received that Janet Callender and Ian Smith are taking it to the Tameside Strategic partnership – so watch this space!
