Community organisations - Volunteer reporter

I reported last month that I will be contacting all community groups in Tameside hoping to meet their management committees to invite them to nominate their own volunteer reporter.

Tameside Radio will then train them all so that they will write and record all information their group wants to publicise via the station. This is a totally new concept whereby community groups are speaking directly to the public and will be in control of their own publicity. So far I have been in touch with 80+ groups and have met with 30+ but there are many more in the Borough so if you haven’t heard from me, please contact me as soon as possible, email:
maria@tamesideradio.com, Tel: 0161 343 8446

Then we can make a date to meet and extend this innovative broadcasting, which no other community radio station in the country has introduced.
We have just completed the training of the first three volunteer reporters and five more will be starting theirs very soon. So hurry up and get in touch and lets all move forward together.

Community Engagement Director

Volunteering for Tameside Police

Tameside Police recognise the benefits of Neighbourhood Policing and empowering our communities to help provide a quality service. With a growing awareness in recent years of the value of volunteers and the vital role they can play in reducing crime, disorder and fear of crime they are encouraging applications from members of the public over 18 years of age, from all backgrounds to volunteer some of their time to carry out a variety of tasks for the Force.

Being a volunteer means giving your time to help Tameside Police improve its quality of service to our communities. The amount of time you decide to volunteer will be up to you and will be agreed during the application process.

Today’s Police service is a challenging working environment that is constantly changing. We aim to have volunteers involved in a number of aspects of the service we provide to the public of Greater Manchester. We understand that your time is valuable and that there are many and varied reasons for volunteering. In return we will aim to develop your skills as a volunteer within Greater Manchester Police

What kind of roles might I be doing?

As a volunteer you could be asked to:

  • Provide information to people who report crime.
  • Help the police to become more accessible to the community.
  • Help the police to better understand the issues that affect the community.
  • Help the police to deal with the things that matter in the community, and many other similar tasks.

Volunteering can give you…

  • The opportunity to develop your interpersonal skills.
  • The possibility of additional and relevant training.
  • The chance to meet and make new friends.
  • The enhancement of your CV.
  • The understanding that you are helping to improve our quality of service for your local community.
  • The knowledge that your commitment to volunteering is making a difference in the area where you live.
