Volunteering, local groups and

networks

LINk needs your help!

The Tameside Local Involvement Network (LINk) has been set up to give Tameside residents a way to have their say about how health and care services are run. During the past six months we have surveyed local people and asked what they think it's important for us to look at this year. We will be working on four priority areas:

If you have experience of these services and want to get involved we'd like to hear from you! We want to make sure our work includes the things that are important to people from across Tameside.

For more information please contact the LINk Team at T3SC on 0161 339 4985 email: tamesidelink@t3sc.org

Meet with other writers

The Writers Reign is a local writers' circle which has been in existence for over 20 years. We were fortunate enough to recently obtain a grant from the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester for the specific purpose of enabling us all to attend the annual conference of the National Association of Writers' Groups at Durham University in the first weekend of September. This will be of great benefit to us as a group and we're so grateful to them for giving us this opportunity.

Writers Reign meet on the first, second and third Monday of each month at the Labour Club, Acres Lane, Stalybridge, and would welcome new members of any genre or ability.

Recycling boat trip and volunteering opportunities with the Wooden Canal Boat Society

For the past 12 years the Wooden Canal Boat Society (WCBS) has been using their historic wooden boats for the benefit of the community of Tameside. On the first Sunday and Monday of every month everybody is to welcome to join in their regular recycling trips by boat, to collect donated goods from Droylsden. Goods are then recycled or sold in their charity shop at 173 Stamford Street, Ashton, to raise funds to restore the boats.

The Wooden Canal Boat Society has a new WCBS NVQ Project, funded by Tameside Council's Innovation Fund. Volunteers who wish to do so are given the opportunity to study for NVQ's, supported by the Training Coordinator. This is a valuable opportunity for people who want to improve their skills and chances of finding work in an increasingly competitive job market.

For more information on recycling trips or volunteering ring the WCBS on 0161 330 8422. www.wcbs.org.uk/
