Control
The Office for Disability Issues has launched a
consultation to ask disabled people how to make choice and control a
reality in their lives.

Government proposals on a social
investment bank
The Office of the Third Sector has just published
a consultation on proposals for the design and functions of a potential
Social Investment Wholesale Bank. The results will feed into the
development of substantive proposals for such a bank which could help
enable third sector organisations to access the finance they need to
grow and become more sustainable.

Researching councils duty to
involve
From April 2009 local authorities have had a duty
to inform, consult and involve local citizens. Urban Forum is carrying

West (VSNW) has launched a new network
for third and independent Sector Providers of Mental Health Services:
PROMiSE NW.

young achievers
The Young Achievers award scheme to recognise
young volunteers (16 to 25) in community, arts, environment and sport is

Britain's Kindest Kid 2009
Five News and Charities Aid Foundation are in
search of Britain's Kindest Kid 2009. The competition rewards charitable
work by children aged 16 and under. They are looking for children who
have done amazing things to support charities, help others and make the

Bringing empty properties back to
life
A new website has been launched by a project that
aims to help community groups bring empty housing back into use, at:

It has information on how to get organised, how to get hold of and borrow empty properties from their owners, funding, repairs and how to turn renovating properties into a training opportunity.
Code of engaging with offenders
A Code of Practice 'Engaging the perspectives of
offenders and former offenders' has been produced by a coalition of
organisations including Clinks, Revolving Doors Agency, Nacro and the
Howard League for Penal Reform. It provides guidance involving offenders

The National Audit Office and the Office of the
Third Sector (OTS) have published new guidance on monitoring, designed
to help government bodies reduce the reporting burden on the third
sector organisations they fund.
